The First Marriage

Last time in Bible Understanding, woman was created by God using one of man's ribs. The Bible explains that from here forward in time "man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one".  This is the first marriage and it establishes the belonging of one to another, becoming one with a shift in loyalty from parents to spouse with relationship commitments including inseparability and exclusivity. The family unit is created from the pairing and is a foundational building block for human society. Gods original plan and what humans have done thereafter is the accounting of our own choices with the freedom that comes from having been created in His image. At this point in the account of man and woman, they were naked and unashamed. Next in Bible Understanding, we meet a serpent, the shrewdest of all wild animals The Lord had made...until next time.
